Punakha Dzong ( Fortress)
Ugyen Wangchuck, the first hereditary king of Bhutan was crowned in this dzong in 1907. Punakha Dzong ( Fortress) which was considered to be the first capital of Bhutan and the Dzong served as the central part of the Government .Not only did it served as the central part of the government but also the first session of the National Assembly was held there in 1953.
